The pests have significantly impacted spring onion farming in Yilan County, where climate anomalies have worsened their proliferation. Director Lee Wen-li noted the challenges posed by traditional pesticides, which fail against larvae hidden in the plant leaves. Local grower Lin Tung-hai reported a severe decline in planting areas due to the infestation, with spring onion cultivation halving from 400 to 150 hectares in Sansing Township.
