As urban light pollution increasingly dims our view of the cosmos, a dedicated movement led by the International Dark-Sky Association strives to restore the beauty of the night sky for future generations. In Colorado, 15 locations have achieved the prestigious dark sky designation, including six communities like Westcliffe, Silver Cliff, and Crestone, recognized for their commitment to preserving starlit skies through strict lighting ordinances and community support. These areas, along with some of the state’s ten designated Dark Sky Parks, offer stunning celestial views, particularly in the high elevations of the Rockies, where the natural beauty of the night sky is well-protected from urban light interference. Whether through organized events or individual stargazing, Colorado is becoming a prime destination for astronomy enthusiasts to connect with the universe above.
