Saudi Arabia has officially recognized the AlUla Manara and AlGharameel Nature Reserves as the first Dark Sky Park in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), enhancing the Kingdom’s growing reputation in astrotourism. These pristine desert locations, free from light pollution, offer breathtaking views of a vibrant night sky, attracting stargazers and astronomy enthusiasts. The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is at the forefront of promoting the region’s natural beauty and rich history, with plans to develop the AlUla site into a hub for astronomical education and research. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals, aiming to diversify its economy and elevate its status as a premier global travel destination through unique experiences such as night camping, guided observation sessions, and a variety of outdoor adventures under the stars.
