Fenwick Island Residents Discover Strategies to Combat Light Pollution

In Fenwick Island, Delaware, community members gathered at Town Hall to explore the impacts of light pollution during an informative event hosted by the Fenwick Island Dark Sky Committee. Featuring guest speakers and visual presentations, attendees learned about the environmental effects of artificial light and were advised on using lower-lumen and lower-Kelvin light bulbs. Rosemary Hoy, chair of the committee, emphasized the detrimental consequences of excess nighttime lighting on local wildlife and ecosystems. Residents were encouraged to implement simple measures like using motion sensors and reducing unnecessary lighting. The committee also aims to update the town’s outdated lighting ordinance by the year’s end.
