First ‘Net Zero’ Visitor Center Opens in U.S. National Park System

Lighting Science Group (LSG) has partnered with the National Park Service to launch the first “net zero” visitor center in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, named the Anthony C. Beilenson Visitor Center. This innovative facility, built on the historic King Gillette Ranch, is LEED Platinum Certified and generates its energy through a 94-kilowatt solar system, utilizing LSG’s energy-efficient, American-made LED lighting. The center incorporates natural lighting and energy-efficient technologies, ensuring a lower carbon footprint. Open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, it offers an environmentally friendly destination for visitors, highlighting modern conservation efforts supported by a $9.5 million investment from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
