Jesse Brown, an unexpected star at this year’s National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, transitioned from aspiring football player to accomplished steer wrestler after his college football career at Washington State did not unfold as he had hoped. Originally from Baker City, Oregon, Brown began his football journey in the fourth grade and was a preferred walk-on at Washington State under coach Mike Leach. However, after transferring to Montana State and embracing the rodeo lifestyle in 2015, Brown has now established himself as a five-time NFR qualifier, currently ranking fourth in steer wrestling. He recently showcased his skills by winning a round with impressive times of 3.6 and 3.5 seconds, despite the competitive field. Balancing his passion for rodeo with an interest in the Montana State Bobcats’ undefeated football season, Brown reflects on his journey and expresses his deep love for the sport he once never envisioned.
