April promises to be a thrilling month for astronomy enthusiasts, featuring several noteworthy celestial events. On April 12, stargazers can witness the Pink Micromoon at 8:22 p.m. PT, which, despite its name, will not appear pink but is named after the spring bloom of moss pink flowers and will be smaller than usual due to its distance from Earth. The annual Lyrid meteor shower will peak on the nights of April 21 and 22, offering a chance to see up to 100 meteors per hour under optimal conditions. On April 25, a favorable alignment of the waning crescent moon with Venus and Saturn will create a triangular formation resembling a smiley face. Finally, on April 27, the year’s closest new supermoon will occur, although it will be invisible to the naked eye. For the best viewing experience, stargazers are advised to seek dark skies away from city light pollution and check weather forecasts.
