Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology Announces New Developments

Researchers at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) have developed a groundbreaking vision system inspired by the exceptional eyesight of cats. This innovative design utilizes a slit-like elliptical aperture and a patterned reflective layer, significantly enhancing an autonomous system’s ability to detect and recognize objects under varying lighting conditions, including bright sunlight and low light, as well as in complex or camouflaged environments. Published in the journal Science Advances, the technology promises to improve the performance of drones, security robots, and self-driving vehicles by allowing them to focus on essential details while filtering out unnecessary information, all while being energy-efficient.
