Iconic Sites Illuminate in Blue for National Tourism Week

Lee County, Florida, is celebrating National Tourism Week from May 4 to 10 with its “Light Up Lee” initiative, illuminating at least 10 local landmarks in blue to emphasize the significance of tourism to the area’s economy. Notable sites include Cape Coral City Hall and the control tower at Southwest Florida International Airport. The county welcomed 3.2 million visitors in 2024, contributing over $3.1 billion to the economy and supporting 42,000 jobs, which generated nearly $1.6 billion in wages. Local residents saved an average of $1,049 in taxes due to tourism contributions. Despite recent hurricanes, officials are optimistic about attracting even more visitors with various promotional efforts.
