Taksim stadium, located in the Green Line area and recently renovated with support from Turkey, has become a pivotal training venue for young athletes, especially during evenings in the summer heat. The stadium, operated by the Çetinkaya Türk sports Club (ÇTSK) and reopened in March 2023, holds significant historical relevance for the Turkish Cypriot community, as emphasized by ÇTSK President Mehmet Tatar. After years of neglect, the stadium underwent a swift renovation that included the installation of much-needed lighting, largely facilitated by contributions from Turkish officials. However, Tatar expressed concerns over new entry restrictions imposed by the United Nations, which complicate access for various teams. Looking to the future, Tatar outlined plans to expand the stadium into a full-fledged sports complex with additional facilities while stressing the importance of a permanent electricity supply to ensure the venue’s sustainability. Taksim Stadium’s storied past reflects its role in Turkish Cypriot culture, having served as a venue for sports, celebrations, and events over the decades.
