Inks Lake State Park in Burnet, Texas, is pursuing certification as an International Dark Sky Park to enhance wildlife conservation, improve visitor experiences, and boost the local economy through astro-tourism. This initiative aims to significantly reduce light pollution in the area, benefiting endangered species such as the golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo, which depend on unspoiled night skies. As one of the most visited state parks in Texas, Inks Lake plans to conduct educational programs to promote dark skies and will join Enchanted Rock State Natural Area as the only other Dark Sky Park in the Highland Lakes region. Additionally, the park aims to attract visitors for stargazing and astrophotography, which have proven economic benefits for nearby communities.
