In a collaborative effort to enhance stargazing in the area, the Friends of the Lake District, The National Trust, Keswick Town Council, Keswick Tourism Association, and the Cockermouth Astronomical Society have launched “The Big Switch Off.” This initiative will see approximately 70 streetlamps turned off overnight around key locations such as Lake Road, Hope Park, Crow Park, and The Headlands, with signage to alert drivers of the reduced lighting. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by turning off their own lights, and those attending are invited to bring binoculars and telescopes to learn from expert astronomers.
