Tara Dakini, a 51-year-old art teacher from West Kilbride, has raised alarm about the health effects of newly installed LED streetlights in her area, claiming they trigger migraines, muscle weakness, and chronic fatigue. Despite expressing her concerns to the local council over six years, she has not received appropriate adjustments, unlike residents in other councils who use safer lighting alternatives. Since the installation two weeks ago, Tara, who has photosensitivity, has suffered two severe seizures and taken two weeks off work. She emphasizes the need for councils to explore safer lighting solutions and support from organizations like the Light Aware charity, which advocates for those affected by harmful street lighting. In response, North Ayrshire Council stated it has worked with Tara but maintains its duty to provide lighting for public safety, although it continues to seek a solution accommodating her needs.
