At the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2025), LG Electronics and MediaTek unveiled their innovative Android-based Concurrent Multi-User (CMU) framework for In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems. This standout technology allows multiple passengers to independently use various displays on a single Android OS, catering to the rising demand for diverse in-vehicle content in the Software-Defined Vehicle era. Enhancing the user experience, the CMU framework enables activities such as navigation, video streaming, and gaming simultaneously, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. By consolidating previously separate Android Virtual Machines into one system, it decreases resource demands and costs for automotive manufacturers. The collaboration aims to redefine in-vehicle experiences, positioning vehicles as connected, personalized spaces for all passengers.
