Liberty Hill, Texas, has recently been designated as the state’s newest International Dark Sky Community, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in Williamson County. This achievement results from community initiatives focusing on improved outdoor lighting and dark-sky-friendly policies, aimed at preserving the night sky for future generations. The city, located just northwest of Austin, is known for its stunning vistas and a commitment to retrofitting over 1,100 light fixtures, with full completion slated for August 2027. Under the leadership of local advocacy group Liberty Hill Save Our Stars, the Dark Sky Committee plans to host stargazing events and workshops to enhance community engagement and knowledge about night sky conservation. Texas now boasts 23 certified Dark Sky Places, offering photographers and star enthusiasts alike the chance to capture breathtaking celestial views while promoting environmental stewardship.
