Liberty Hill, recently designated as Texas’s newest International Dark Sky Community, is celebrating a significant victory for stargazers and environmental advocates alike. Located 33 miles northwest of Austin, this charming town will implement dark-sky-friendly policies and retrofitting of outdoor lighting to enhance its night sky visibility. With the support of the Liberty Hill Save Our Stars team and an ongoing initiative that aims to retrofit over 1,100 municipal streetlights by August 2027, Liberty Hill is committed to preserving its breathtaking star-filled skies for future generations. This initiative aligns with a broader movement to promote dark-sky conservation and municipal identity while enriching the state’s astrophotography potential, as Texas now boasts 23 certified Dark Sky Places.
