Liberty Hill Seeks Dark Sky Certification

On November 20, the City of Liberty Hill submitted its application to become an International Dark Sky Community, reflecting its commitment to preserving the night sky. This designation, awarded by the International Dark Sky Association (IDA), recognizes communities that promote responsible outdoor lighting and educate citizens about dark sky stewardship. The application process can span one to three years, involving multiple rounds of revisions and reviews. Dark Sky consultant Amy Jackson praised Liberty Hill’s thorough application, highlighting the city’s initiative to combat light pollution, which began in 2020 through community concerns. Council Member Diane Williams expressed pride in this milestone, emphasizing the town’s dedication to protecting its night skies for future generations.
