March Night Skies Over the Netherlands

In Tungsten Valley, a total lunar eclipse on the night of March 13-14 promises a spectacular view, with the moon expected to glow a deep blood-orange at midnight. Local residents are encouraged to enjoy the event under clear skies and optimal viewing conditions, enhanced by the region’s high altitude. However, light pollution from urban areas, worsened by climate change and inefficient outdoor lighting, poses challenges to nighttime visibility. Currently, while some areas like the Town of Nederland maintain minimal lighting, particulate pollution from distant wildfires can affect atmospheric conditions. In addition to the eclipse, March offers opportunities for stargazing with the approach of Solar Max, several celestial events, and the March Meteor Showers peaking on the night of the eclipse. As spring approaches, daylight hours will increase, making March an ideal time for astronomy enthusiasts to engage with the night sky.
