Metallium Wins Pentagon Contract to Supply Gallium

Metallium has secured its first Small business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract with the U.S. Department of Defense, valued at approximately A$100,000. This critical funding will support a six-month program dedicated to leveraging Metallium’s proprietary Flash Joule Heating technology for gallium recovery from waste streams, including LED scrap. As gallium is vital for defense and advanced technologies, the contract not only positions Metallium within the DoD framework but also opens potential for follow-on funding exceeding $100 million in future phases. The project aims to enhance domestic supply chains for this strategically important metal while addressing national security concerns linked to supply reliance on non-allied nations. With plans to rapidly transition from concept to commercial application, Metallium could significantly impact the U.S. critical minerals landscape, aligning its technology and focus with governmental priorities for sustainable resource management.
