Jamaica’s Minister of Sport, Olivia Grange, has committed to ensuring the National stadium‘s track is resurfaced in time for two major athletics events: the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Championships and the Grand Slam Track meet, both scheduled for March and April 2025. Grange, speaking at the launch of a 5K run/walk event, expressed confidence in the successful completion of the track resurfacing, despite industry experts citing a tight timeline. While it was reported that a contract with Rekortan was signed for the project, details remain forthcoming. The stadium is set to host several key meets leading up to the events, prompting adjustments to scheduled competitions, including relocating the Gold Cup qualifier. Despite the looming challenge of logistical demands and weather conditions, Grange urged the public to remain hopeful and optimistic, emphasizing her commitment to making the resurfacing happen.
