The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has initiated a new initiative aimed at enhancing public lighting in Brazil by transitioning from conventional to LED technology. With R$ 151.7 million allocated for non-reimbursable projects, municipalities and public consortia are encouraged to propose solutions to illuminate streets, squares, and highways. LED lamps offer greater durability, lower electricity consumption, and improved lighting quality, resulting in cost-effective solutions for communities. The funding, managed by the Brazilian Company of Participations in Nuclear and Binational Energy (ENBPAR) through the National Electricity Conservation Program (PROCEL), is open for applications until January 30, 2026. Individual cities can submit proposals ranging from R$ 500,000 to R$ 2.5 million, while consortia can propose projects between R$ 2.5 million and R$ 5 million. Additionally, the highest-scoring project in each region will receive an award for a public lighting management system.
