In Ellington, CT, a new era of evening sports is set to begin as a town-wide sports field lighting project is officially dedicated on Friday. Approved by voters in a 2022 referendum, the nearly $3 million initiative will illuminate playing surfaces at the local high school, Tedford Park, and the Pinney Street Fields, allowing young athletes to engage in baseball, softball, basketball, tennis, pickleball, football, and more during nighttime hours. The installation was carried out by local company Earthlight Solar and Energy Solutions, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at the high school football field. First Selectman Lori Spielman expressed pride in the project, emphasizing the goal of enhancing safety and accessibility for residents to enjoy their community parks after dark.
