A significant milestone has been reached in the development of Greenheys, a new hub spearheaded by UK Biobank and Bruntwood SciTech, set to enhance Manchester’s role as a center for innovation in the sciences. The project, which will provide 131,000 sq ft of specialist lab and office space, is located within Europe’s largest clinical academic campus and is designed to accommodate various scientific businesses. Construction, led by Willmott Dixon, is expected to be completed by Summer 2026. The facility will feature cutting-edge technology, including a high-capacity robotic freezer, aimed at accelerating biomedical research by improving sample storage and retrieval processes. The initiative also emphasizes sustainability, aspiring for net-zero operational impact and fostering collaboration between academic institutions and businesses in the area. Community engagement efforts have already created new job opportunities and supported local initiatives, highlighting the project’s commitment to benefiting the surrounding population.
