Mayor Jon Mitchell, alongside Parks, Recreation and Beaches Director Mary Rapoza and other officials, celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated Dias Field, which has been transformed into a state-of-the-art soccer and recreational complex. The site now features New Bedford’s first regulation-size soccer field, along with a mini-pitch designed for players of all skill levels. Funded with $1.3 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, the improvements include modern amenities such as bleachers and lighting, a circular walking path, a picnic area, and plans for a new playground and renovated bathrooms. The project, designed by Tim Gerrish of Gardner and Gerrish Landscape Architects and constructed by Dandel Construction Inc., reflects the community’s strong support for soccer and aims to enhance recreational opportunities in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood.
