King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has successfully localized blue light-emitting diode (LED) technology, marking a significant advancement in energy-efficient lighting solutions. This development underscores KACST’s commitment to fostering research and innovation through the Saudi Semiconductor Program, training nationals in electronic chip design and manufacturing. The newly developed blue LED technology, which offers energy savings of up to 80% and increased lighting efficiency of 200 lumens per watt, aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by enhancing the Kingdom’s industrial and technological competitiveness. Additionally, the technology contributes to economic diversification by boosting local content, while also addressing climate change through reduced energy consumption and electronic waste, as well as a significant decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
