The city of Missoula is enhancing safety on the heavily used Bitterroot Trail by installing new lighting along a 2.6-mile stretch from the Milwaukee Trail intersection to the Reserve Street Bridge. Annette Marchesseault, senior project manager for the Missoula Redevelopment Agency (MRA), emphasized that the project aims to improve safety for walkers and cyclists who use the trail throughout the day, often expressing discomfort during nighttime travel. The continuous lighting, designed to avoid light pollution by focusing beams downward, will be funded by $1.69 million from Tax Increment Financing, ensuring no new tax increases for residents. Construction is set to continue until August, with the MRA encouraging community feedback regarding the initiative.
