A research team at the University of Seville, Spain, has developed a predictive method to quantify the energy and economic savings of smart lighting control systems. Their findings indicate that such systems could save approximately EUR 4,000 (US$ 4,526) over ten years for an 80-square-meter space. Funded by the Dynalight project and supported by the Spanish Ministry of Education, the team created “daily performance metrics” that factor in climate and activity patterns to assess potential energy consumption. Professor Ignacio J. Acosta noted that the investment in smart LED lighting systems could be recouped within three years through energy savings.
