Sisters, Oregon, has been designated as the state’s second International Dark Sky Community by DarkSky International, following in the footsteps of Antelope, which earned the title last December. This designation is expected to enhance local astrotourism by promoting the city’s natural beauty and its charm, as well as its proximity to attractions like Black Butte and Skylight Cave. Mayor Michael Preedin expressed pride in this recognition, emphasizing the city’s commitment to reducing light pollution. The new title adds to Oregon’s growing list of dark sky recognitions, which include two Dark Sky Communities, three Dark Sky Parks, and a newly designated Dark Sky Place, driven by efforts from the Oregon Dark Sky Network.
