Philips Issues Recall for Lighting Products Sold Seven Years Ago

A German court has ruled in favor of Seoul Semiconductor in a patent infringement case, ordering Philips Lighting (now Signify Group) to recall and destroy products manufactured since March 2017 that violate the patented technology for achieving a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 70 or higher. The Düsseldorf District Court imposed fines of up to €250,000 for each violation, with the German Federal Patent Court affirming the validity of Seoul’s patents, which strengthens related technologies. The implications of this ruling affect an extensive market worth over $100 billion, including home and automotive lighting, and IT sectors. Seoul Semiconductor, which invests significantly in research and development, aims to support fair market practices and innovation in lighting technology.
