In a dramatic turn of events during the Class 4A state semifinal game at Parker Faller Field in Yakima, Puyallup’s baseball team faced not only a challenging score of 8-0 against Lake Washington but also significant lighting issues that forced officials to postpone the game until Saturday morning. Coach Marc Wiese expressed frustration with the inadequate lighting conditions, particularly as several lights near home plate failed, impacting visibility for both teams. After nearly an hour of delay, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) decided to suspend the game due to safety concerns. Lake Washington’s coach, Derek Bingham, voiced the challenges of returning to play after such a disruption, while Wiese emphasized that the facility was not suitable for a championship event. The game is scheduled to resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the championship games to follow later in the day.
