Kansas City’s iconic “Eye-full Tower,” the KCTV-5 communications structure, is set to undergo a relighting project with an anticipated completion date around June 2025. Originally illuminated by 1,360 25-watt bulbs in 1956, the tower’s lights have been largely dark for nearly two decades due to maintenance challenges and rising costs. Recently test-lit in red as part of Mayor Quinton Lucas’s “Illuminate KC” initiative, the tower’s rejuvenation aims to embrace modern LED technology while evoking nostalgia among residents. The project is estimated to cost several hundred thousand dollars, significantly lower than previous proposals, and seeks to enhance Kansas City’s landscape ahead of its role in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ultimately, the aim is to celebrate local landmarks with a contemporary twist, promoting Kansas City as a vibrant destination for both residents and visitors.
