Rising Popularity of LED Light Bulbs in Japan

Japan is set to ban all incandescent bulbs by the end of 2012, prompting a significant shift towards LED lighting in public spaces, aided by the Energy Act Amendment effective from 2010. Major electronics companies, including Sharp, Toshiba, NEC Lighting, Mitsubishi, and Panasonic, are preparing to capitalize on this burgeoning market. Panasonic has already launched its EVERLEDS range for home use, available this October, while NEC and Mitsubishi plan similar releases soon. Panasonic anticipates a monthly output of 50,000 LED bulbs, potentially increasing to 25% of its total revenue by 2012, with aspirations to expand into European and U.S. markets. As global demand for LED lighting grows, major suppliers are rapidly introducing new products, indicating a promising future for LED technology.
