In celebration of International Dark Sky Week 2025, a series of engaging events aimed at combating light pollution took place, drawing together astronomy and environmental science enthusiasts. Fatima Alkhateri, Director of the Sharjah Astronomical Planetarium Department, opened the event by stressing the importance of preserving the night sky for ecological balance and human health. The initiative featured interactive workshops, including a lecture on light pollution by Ammar Eissa, hands-on simulations by Anoud Alzaabi, and sessions on smart lighting and astrophotography led by other experts. Participants also enjoyed immersive experiences, such as a tour of space science exhibitions and the special show “The Disappearing Night Sky.” The event concluded with a live stargazing session where attendees utilized advanced telescopes to directly observe the effects of light pollution, enhancing their understanding of its impact on the cosmos.
