Salisbury Cathedral has successfully completed a six-month project to upgrade its interior lighting to energy-efficient LED bulbs, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. The new lighting not only provides an enhanced experience for visitors but is also brighter and more sustainable, improving visibility for those with visual impairments and revealing medieval artwork and a blocked doorway in the Trinity Chapel. Funded by the Friends of Salisbury Cathedral charity, the project is expected to save 80% in energy costs and cut carbon emissions by approximately 25 tonnes annually. Revd. Kenneth Padley emphasized the project’s alignment with climate responsibility and spiritual symbolism, noting ongoing plans for further energy-efficient upgrades throughout the Cathedral.
