“Site Near Tumut Recognized as Australia’s First ‘DarkSky’ Accommodation”

The Kestrel Nest Eco Hut, located between Tumut and Wagga Wagga at the edge of the Snowy Mountains, has become the first accommodation in Australia to receive international accreditation as a “DarkSky lodging.” Recognized by DarkSky International for its exceptional starry nights, the eco resort offers visitors stunning views of the Milky Way and a chance to reconnect with nature. Owners Louise Freckelton and David Bray report a surge in interest since achieving this certification, which promotes awareness of light pollution and its impacts on natural landscapes. The rigorous certification process includes a thorough lighting inventory and a commitment to advocacy for dark skies. The Kestrel Nest joins a select group of just nine globally certified lodgings.
