Point Pelee National Park, designated as a Dark Sky Preserve by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada in 2006, offers visitors an exceptional opportunity to explore the night sky, particularly on new moon nights when stars are most visible. The park prioritizes the protection of its nocturnal environment by minimizing artificial light, which not only enhances stargazing but also supports wildlife that depends on darkness for their natural behaviors. Visitors can enjoy special “Dark Sky Nights” when the park remains open until midnight, with dates scheduled throughout 2025. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will provide telescopes on select nights, weather permitting. To enhance the stargazing experience, visitors are encouraged to follow responsible lighting practices and are provided with tips and resources, like star charts, to make the most of their nighttime exploration.
