Buffalo National River has recently enhanced its restroom and facility lighting as part of its commitment to preserving its status as an International Dark Sky Park (IDSP), a designation it received in 2019 from the International Dark-Sky Association. This initiative aims to protect the park’s naturally dark skies and educate visitors about the importance of safeguarding this valuable resource. The park offers various night sky programs throughout the year, emphasizing the significance of unpolluted night skies, which have been increasingly threatened by artificial light. By promoting responsible outdoor lighting practices, Buffalo National River seeks to create a tranquil environment for visitors to enjoy both day and night, highlighting the park’s unique natural beauty and fostering a deeper appreciation for its night sky. As the first park in Arkansas to receive IDSP status, Buffalo National River is actively working to ensure that its dark skies are preserved for future generations.
