The Taiwan Photonics Festival 2012, held from June 19-21 at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall, showcased significant advancements in the photonics industry. Organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Photonic Industry Technology & Development Association (PIDA), this year’s event featured co-located shows including Opto Taiwan, LED Lighting Taiwan, Solar Taiwan, and OptoComm Taiwan, which collectively secured over US$1.5 billion in deals. The festival attracted more than 2,500 buyers, marking a 41% increase in advanced registrations and a notable participation from around 500 buyers from mainland China. With 253 exhibitors presenting their innovations across 797 booths—an 18% and 17% increase respectively—the LED lighting segment highlighted cutting-edge applications, especially in horticulture, featuring prominent international and local brands such as Nichia, Cree, and Osram. Overall, the festival underscored Taiwan’s growing prominence in the global photonics market.
