TSMC Collaborates with Technical University of Munich to Launch AI Chip Research and Development Center in Bavaria
Bavaria’s government has announced a collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to establish the Munich Advanced-Technology Center for High-Tech AI Chips (MACHT-AI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). This initiative, led by Professor Hussam Amrouch, aims to enhance European chip design capabilities and is funded by approximately EUR 4.5 million from Bavaria’s Ministry of Science and Ministry of Economic Affairs. TSMC will provide technical support and training focused on developing high-performance AI chips. This center follows TSMC’s plans to set up a chip design center in Munich to bolster its support for European customers, coinciding with the groundbreaking of its first FinFET-capable foundry in Dresden.
