Universal Avionics (UA) has announced that its ClearVision Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) effectively addresses new challenges posed by the FAA’s recent updates to Approach Lighting Systems, which require airports to transition from incandescent lamps to energy-efficient LEDs. The EVS-5000 multispectral camera is designed to help pilots identify these LED lights, particularly in low-visibility conditions. Unlike traditional infrared-based sensors, the EVS-5000 employs a combination of five different sensors along with a thermal imager, enhancing its capability to detect essential lighting for safe landings. CEO Dror Yahav emphasized that the system stands out in the industry for its innovative design and has received the FAA’s maximum allowable visual advantage credit of 50%. ClearVision significantly improves situational awareness for pilots, showing clear, high-definition images even during challenging weather, thereby enhancing safety during critical flight operations.
