The incident occurred after the Australian team requested the lights in the practice nets be turned on, which led to a computer mishap that turned off the main light towers instead. The two brief outages lasted 28 and 86 seconds, sparking conspiracy theories around South Australia’s electricity reliance. State Labor MP Tom Koutsantonis assured the public that the outage was unrelated to power supply issues. Former umpire Simon Taufel expressed concerns about the disruption to players’ concentration, while the management confirmed a quick resolution to the technical problem. The new LED floodlights, which cost $5 million, were installed just last December.
