International Dark Sky Week is set to take place from April 21-28, 2024, coinciding with a new moon on April 27. This initiative aims to raise awareness about light pollution and its detrimental effects on wildlife and human health. In the Greater Lake Tahoe area, efforts to preserve dark skies have gained momentum, particularly in Truckee, California, where new outdoor lighting policies have been introduced to comply with international dark sky standards. Local organizations are offering stargazing recommendations and rebate programs for energy-efficient outdoor lighting. Additionally, Tahoe National Brewing Co. has launched a series of imperial stouts, including “Let the Animals Roam,” to support the cause.
