Upgrades to Sports Centre Lighting Achieve 51% Cost Savings

In a recent update during a Budget debate, Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, Owen Darrell, announced significant strides at the National sports Centre, driven by a renewable energy project that has achieved an impressive 51% reduction in electricity costs due to upgraded lighting. Darrell revealed plans to soon replace outdated changing rooms, which have been flagged as unsafe by shadow sports minister Ben Smith. He also addressed challenges surrounding the solar panel project, initiated in 2018, which is still partially complete. The overall budget for sports facility administration has risen to $2.64 million, reflecting the transfer of public golf courses to the Department of Sport and Recreation and enhanced operational funding for the Centre.
