Tara Dakini, a 51-year-old artist from West Kilbride, has voiced serious health concerns regarding newly installed LED streetlights, claiming they trigger migraines, muscle weakness, and chronic fatigue. Despite raising these issues with North Ayrshire Council for six years, she feels her requests for alternative lighting have been largely ignored. Since the installation two weeks ago, Tara has suffered severe seizures and has had to take time off work, which she attributes to the harmful effects of the lights. She is supported by the charity Light Aware, which advocates for better lighting solutions for those with photosensitivity. While the council has acknowledged her complaints, they insist they must balance the needs of all residents reliant on street lighting for safety.
