World Record for LED Christmas Lights

I, Dr. Bulb, am agnostic—but Christmas is my favorite holiday (right after LightFair International and Hanukkah—the festival of lights)! Lights are EVERYWHERE. And with the price reduction in LED holiday lights, the holiday is even brighter and more efficient than ever.

A family in Australia clearly shares my enthusiasm for Christmas and LED lighting and even broke a world record—twice! The Richards family set the record for Christmas lights on a residential property with 502,165 LED lights, according to the Associated Press. In 2011, the family entered the record book with 331,038 lights but was trumped in 2012 by a family in New York.

And the lights are more than decoration—the display is open to the public to raise money for charity. The local power company will donate the estimated $2,300 in electricity to illuminate the home for the month of December. I can only imagine the cost if the family hadn’t chosen LED lighting.

Now, it’s time for someone to break a record for LED bollard lights. I may have to be the first!

Check out the video below to see the impressive light display.
