The City of Ypsilanti is taking steps to enhance stargazing experiences while simultaneously safeguarding wildlife. During tonight’s city council meeting, the Planning Commission will present proposals aimed at making the city more compliant with Dark Sky standards. City Planner Joshua Burns highlighted the importance of reviewing the current lighting ordinance, noting that it is possible to maintain public safety while minimizing light pollution’s negative impacts on wildlife and human health. Light pollution not only obstructs celestial views but also poses various threats, including harm to ecosystems, financial waste, and contributions to climate change.
