Downtown Gaylord, USA, will benefit from a $50,000 grant from the State’s Economic Recovery Monies to fund the replacement of 86 main street lights with new LED fixtures. The project, which totals $62,000, aims to be dark-sky compliant and is expected to save the city approximately $5,500 annually. City Manager Joe Duff noted that the new cooler-white lighting will significantly enhance the downtown area’s appearance compared to the existing orange high-pressure sodium lights. Plans are also in place to eventually replace the remaining 145 lights in the downtown area.
