Significant Effects on Greenhouse Microclimate and Crop Water Usage

Food Autonomy, in partnership with Plant Lighting, conducted a pilot study on LEDFan technology’s impact on greenhouse climate and crop performance, specifically focusing on high-wire tomato cultivation. The study evaluated how the integration of active air circulation with LED lighting affects airflow, temperature distribution, and plant health. Key findings demonstrated increased canopy temperatures and decreased relative humidity beneath the LEDFan fixtures, which may enhance crop transpiration and nutrient uptake. Enhanced airflow also reduced vertical temperature gradients, potentially improving climate homogeneity within the greenhouse. These insights suggest that LEDFan technology could lead to more efficient and sustainable horticultural practices.
