Eaton, a diversified industrial manufacturer, has secured a $2.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to advance the development of energy-efficient lighting technologies. The initiative aims to triple the manufacturing speed of LED fixtures, reduce LED light engine costs by five times, and cut assembly expenses by approximately 50%. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz emphasized that this collaboration will not only reduce consumer costs but also foster job creation in the U.S. Currently, LED lighting is significantly more efficient and long-lasting compared to traditional options, though more expensive. The project will be conducted at Eaton’s facilities in Wisconsin and Georgia, contributing to the DOE’s broader goal of promoting affordable, high-performance LED lighting solutions.
